Degree Final Year

BA (Hons) Business and Management programme (final year) is an innovative undergraduate degree programme which builds upon your prior study as a progression towards the degree. The programme is delivered over 12 months commencing with induction in Sri Lanka by university lecturers to introduce the students to the learning resources, tutors, modules and assessments. Students will then complete five modules and professional project supported by tutors from the university and locally.

Contents

This module is intended to develop your awareness and critical evaluation of strategic management by assessing the impact of the business environment on organisations. The nature of practicing strategy will be evaluated by reviewing the tools and activities involved when formulating strategies. "Module 1: Understanding StrategyThe concept of corporate social responsibility will be central when discussing the above topics by assessing the role of stakeholders in organisations. Case studies describing practical examples of formulating strategies in organisations will play a major role in your learning process. This module is assessed by means of a 3000 word, written report.

Being able to lead, develop and support individuals and teams is vital in enabling others to maximise their contribution and for achievement of the organisation's vision. This is the focus of this module. It aims to consolidate and develop your understanding of the theories and principles of effective leadership "Module 2: Leadershipand examine the differences between management and leadership. The module will help you appreciate the issues and complexities involved in leading and how this is related to successful implementation of business strategy. It will also enable you to reflect on your role as an existing or aspiring leader of others and enhance your understanding of the importance of effective delegation, motivation and development of employees. This module is assessed by a written report which requires you to consider your current leadership traits and areas for improved leadership practice.

This module is intendent to develop your understanding of contemporary issues in management and organisational behaviour and subsequent ability to understand the process adopting such innovative practice. The role of organisational learning, workplace design, transformation and knowledge sharing in leading and managing cultural change in order to create a climate for innovation will be emphasised as well as the importance of developing a strategy to support change throughout the life of change strategy. Assessment will be by mean of a live project, working alongside an employer in the analysis of a contemporary organisational case stydy. You will be required to complete an individual report discussing the application of contemporary practice and its relavance to the case study. "Module 3: Contemporary Management Practice "



This module is intended to develop your understanding of your role and relationships with others, in the context of your own organisation. It aims to enable you to view continuing professional development as a key to maximising their performance in the role and workplace. "Module 4: Personal Impact"This module will encourage you to embark on the process of personal, interpersonal and professional knowledge and skills development by evaluating your knowledge, skills and competence in the light of job requirements and personal aspirations.

Financial Management for international companies involves not only examining the fundamentals of investment choice, capital structure and dividend decisions, but also the continuously changing international environment."Module 5: International Finance and Financial Management" This module is designed to allow the student to show an appreciation of some of the most pressing contemporary financial issues facing companies today in the international environment as well as to be able to apply the impact of these to the creation of wealth and value by managers.


The module is desinged to promote personal development and a range of inter-personal, intellectualk and practical (function) skills and is demonstrated through an individually megotiated real-time work based project that will be of benifit to the learner's employing organisation. THe project will focus on an organisation - based issue and seek to develop skills in the diagonosis of problems, research and analysis, development of strategies to address problems, and techniques of presentation.Module 6: Dissertation or Work Base Project"
